Here I go again! Preparedness is not just for emergencies!
I was visiting my mother’s ward and noticed something in the ward bulletin titled “Do One Thing.” It was encouragement to do one small thing each week to work toward emergency preparedness. That is a good idea. A little at a time helps make it manageable. But then it said “Check here each Sunday to see which items to add to your food storage.” (food storage – not emergency kits or plans!) Then it gave a monthly food item and a weekly food item.
Those of you who have followed me long enough know that I believe food storage is part of preparedness, not “emergency” preparedness. Preparedness is not just for emergencies. Preparedness is for every day. I would love it if these kinds of announcements would just encourage preparedness and not emergency preparedness. It has to do with mindset and attitude, with an optimistic outlook on life versus a pessimistic outlook on life.
Help others see the difference and help the preparedness specialist in your ward who teaches food storage to drop “emergency” from the phrase.
